Jean Ferrero, founder of the Gallery of the same name and actor life artistic Niçoise of the last fifty years, has been a witness privileged artistic movements, which under the generic name "Nice school", have emerged in Nice. Exhibition of 40 works of art of "the school of Nice" given by Jean Ferrero (photographer and actor of the artistic life in Nice these past fifty years) to the city of Nice. The school of Nice is the art movement which developed in Nice at the end of the 50s; they were initially three artists: Arman, Klein and Raysse; There are now hundreds.
Characterizing them:
- Four membership criteria: first, an artist cannot be claim of the school of Nice if it is remote from all academism, of any agreement; Second, the artist must have achieved a significant part of its work in Nice or in its region; It should be initiating or engine, and not a follower movement; Finally, it must be part of a problem contemporary.
-There's been within the school of Nice, three movements: first, the so-called "new realism", it is a sort of "pop art" French appeared in the 1950s. or have distinguished three Niçois: Arman, Raysse and Klein, three artists that is often associated with Caesar (the OM neighbor); Then in the 1960s, the artists grouped around Fluxus (Ben, Alocco and Brecht,...) mix humor, iconoclastic poetry, gag,. details of life, with a view to exhausting all the possibilities of the... "Everything is art", everything becomes possible, and everyone can make art, and especially need places of consecration, the territories are exceeded (painting, sculpture, music, dance make a whole), we're Reinventing the poetry, it puts in scene in the daily actions, we engaged in theatre-actions and happenings anti-musique, with destruction of instruments of music, Burns of partitions, etc. you push the provocation to its acceptable limits, it appeals to the public, or even we insult their "small bourgeois" behaviour. Finally, in the 1970s, of many artists (Charvolen, Chacallis, Isnard, Maccaferri, Miguel,) ..., Viallat, Dolla and Saytour,...) join the "Group 70" and "Surface Support", two movements which, after the object as part of art and the attitude, return to the tools and procedures of painting a neglected time in favour of new forms of expression.
And then there's the unclassifiable: Bernar Venet, Albert Chubac, Malaval, Verdet, Eze or Jean Mas.
